Quick Home Makeover Tips Using Cushions Ever feel like giving your home a makeover without committing to weekends of hard labour and putting a big hole in your pocket?  There are some great ways to spice things up around your home that are quick, easy, and affordable and which will immediately freshen up a room.  One way to do this is to add some beautiful new cushions to your decor. It might be your living area or your bedroom, a guest room or just your favourite comfy chair that needs a lift.  You don’t have to replace the coverings or paint the walls and renew the floor coverings â€" you can add a really decent splash of colour with simply cushions. Cushion covers come in all shapes and sizes now and also in a stunning range of colours and fabrics; so you can mix and match to your heart’s content! I love the wonderful geometric designs available now. Fresh spring colours â€" breezy blues, new greens and a splash of snowy white will bring any room to life!  If you choose the colours you want (two or three will do it) and combine a pattern or two that are similar but different, then top it off with a bold coloured plain cushion, the effect is really quite dramatic. Different textures can also make a great statement and a real point of interest in any room. Shaggy fabrics and soft suedes add a touch of luxury or you can go boho with tassels and velvets and rich jewel tones. Mix it Up Maybe that armchair that you really love to snuggle up in is still your favourite but needs a little bit of character added â€" you can’t go past a well chosen cushion to liven things up! You might prefer something really funky or a little more subtle and inviting; or you may choose some lively patterns and textures using just two or three well chosen colours and designs.  Whatever your particular fancy, there are plenty of cushion covers to choose from. I love to mix and match different sizes and shapes to give a balanced feel â€" especially in the bedroom! The smaller rectangular cushions are great for this and will save you some room on your bed! To get some inspiration on what colours and fabrics there are to play with, I did the only sensible thing to do and checked out what is available online.  I found a great range of  beautiful decorative cushionsâ€" it doesn’t matter what your taste, there’s something to please everyone and to suit all seasons!  The only trouble I had was making up my mind which ones I want; the choice is incredible! Why not get your creative on and spruce up the home for the change of seasons. You’ll have so much fun your home will feel fresh and new again!

As a holder of a Master of Science in Experimental Psychology, Izso has used his knowledge of the human condition to craft a work that addresses an area that is still rather uncomfortable for many business â€" social media. Through a superb breakdown of its importance in the current business landscape, even the most staunch doubters will be swayed to finally engage through this technological medium. Once the barrier of distrusting social media is breached, the book then further expands into the three big names of social media â€"  LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Theres even a brief section dedicated to Pinterest, Google+ and YouTube as potential avenues of engagement. With this approach, its the perfect resource for those that are otherwise timid when it comes to utilizing the potential of social media by painting it as more than just a passing phase. Passing Paid-For The entire thesis of this book rests on the concept that companies dont need to spend any money on increasing their ROI if they have yet to tap the potential of the social media markets. To do this, Izso spends the first quarter of his book painstakingly outlining the verifiable importance of social media in todays economic economy. Through tips and bullet points, he takes what he knows of psychology and uses that to explain why and how social media is an effective and successful marketing tool. To that extent, however, this limits the audience of the books. In truth, these introductory chapters make it out to be more for those that arent already sold on the idea of social media marketing. This is understandable since, as a consultant, he no doubt deals with many companies that still arent entirely sold on the fact that ROI can be increased without pouring money into more marketing. From here, though, the book then does become an extremely useful tool for those that want further insight into the worlds of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. More specifically, it acts as a guide for the three platforms and how to go about using them correctly since each one comes with its own set of interactions. By then describing the various behaviors users expect based on platform and technology used, companies can then enter into the social media stage ready to succeed if only by avoiding many pitfalls companies often fall prey to. Focus Your Strengths One aspect of this book that really lends to its credibility is the simple fact that Izso doesnt advise to sign up for every type of social media account out there. In fact, his advice is contrary. Instead of wasting time trying to cast a large net where potential customers may be, cast a smaller net in a limited space where you know your customers hang out. Your business will do much better with their ROI goals using only one major social media choice than trying to manage all. The reasoning behind this is Izsos stance that an effective medial platform is one where you can successfully build strong relationships as a means of increasing business. If your marketers are stretched thin trying to engage on numerous sites, the relationships will only sit at a shallow level. Limit this to build relationship depth and you have a recipe for success. Even if you dont have a large spread of engaged audience members, the fact that you continually post increases your SEO and the chance youll be found by new clients. In a nutshell, Got Social Mediology? is a spot on take in regards to the importance of utilizing those social media platforms that will most benefit your business. Only through realistic relationship building and continual reminders that your company is active in the community will you achieve an increased ROI for no additional stresses on the budget. Now you can sync up your Linkedin and Twitter profiles to share content you chose with either network. From the Linkedin blog: Now you can tweet your LinkedIn status to your Twitter followers or automatically post your tweets as your LinkedIn status. Make your Twitter account visible on your profile Use #in to share posts from Twitter to your LinkedIn status (#li also works) Choose which LinkedIn status updates you share with Twitter This is big news for your personal brand. It is becoming increasingly easier to share content between multiple social networks and I predict that this “ease of use/efficiency/flexibility” feature will continue to gain in popularity in 2010. Does it make sense to login to each of your social networks to share something? No way. It makes much more sense to have one portal where you can share everything or just what you choose. Social networks are moving in that direction. It will be very similar to what the RSS reader did to make checking your favorite blogs much easier and a more enjoyable experience. It simply did not make sense to visit the website for every blog you enjoyed. It also does not make sense to have to visit each social network if you only want to post a link or update your status. Further, does is make sense that you do not have the choice to share some updates/tweets with one network and not the other? Absolutely not. This weeks announcement from Linkedin and Twitter fixes some of these issues and gives those that have created their personal brands more reach and potential to grow their personal brand awareness. It was the worst performing submarine, was never ready for its missions on time and was basically the laughing stock of the US navy. Chinese Proverb When you land your new job and are counting the days until you start, you will have mixed feelings of excitement (finally getting a job) and apprehension (a new job? Now what?). What better than to report on the trials and tribulations of someone starting a new job? The articles (periodically published) will include the good, bad and ugly experiences as the author joins his new company, takes on new responsibilities and begins the challenge of starting all over. Prologue The Night Before Its the night before I start my new job and it almost feels like the way I used to feel at the start of a new school year. Lots of hard work led up to this: countless job applications, telephone calls and interviews. For those who have been through a job search (or are currently going through a job search) you will know just what I mean. My overnight success (as in tomorrow I start my new job) took 8 long months of pounding the pavement (really, the Internet) and I experienced many interesting conversations/interviews (and my fair share of not so good experiences). I lost count of the number of times my hopes were raised, only to have the rug yanked from under me. But enough of the whining, I finally found a new job. So, a little background on me to help put it all in perspective. I am in the later years of my career, having worked for over 25 years in financial services in and around New York. For much of my career, I seem to have had the timing of a misaligned metronome arriving too late to make the big bucks but just in time for a downsizing, divestiture, merger, bankruptcy or some other man-made disaster which was a prelude to yet another job search. Not that Im complaining (okay, maybe just a little bit). On the positive side, Ive always managed to land on my feet. Sometimes taking several steps backwards, but always restarting my forward career drive. In the end, it was my network that helped me land this opportunity. I had quite a few potential opportunities that were introduced by recruiters or by direct response to job postings (yes, you do get responses every so often), but in the end they did not pan out. While Ive always valued my network, I did not actually believe that my network would be the source of my next job. But more than anything else, I found that there is a direct relationship between the time you spend on your job search and the number of potential opportunities that present themselves. So, here I am, Sunday night 11pm (yes, I should be sleeping) thinking about all of the things that could go wrong like oversleeping, a late train, spilling coffee on my clothes on the way to the office. Lots to do in a new job and, even for the most confident of personalities, a little apprehension. Proving yourself (once again), learning a new corporate culture, planning to have a number of successes before you have your first miss (we are all human after all). Time to get some sleep. I look forward to writing about my first few days on the job in the next installment.
