How to Start an Event Planning Business
How to Start an auffhrung Planning geschftliches miteinanderCredit Shutterstock / VTT Studio Good company makes for a memorable fest, but the little details matter as well. Food, music, decorations and aesthetics are all important aspects of a quality party. If youre the organized creative among your group of friends, hosting gatherbeiings or planning nights out, you might want to channel that passion into a career. You dont have to be the life of the party to put together a successful soiree. In fact, many event planners prefer being behind the scenes. Those who can remain calm under pressure, think creatively and negotiate a good deal are the ones who will succeed in the industry. Heres everything you need to know to start your career as an event planner. The industryThe U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that event-planning jobs are due to grow by 10 percent by 2024, which is faster than average.According to an article by Entrepreneur, there are two distinct markets for event planners the corporate market and the social market. Corporate planners are hired by companies to organize meetings, conferences and other work-related events. Social planners, on the other hand, cover weddings, birthday celebrations and other types of occasions.Being an event planner is a dream job, but it doesnt come easy, said Chelsea LaFolletteco-owner and event coordinator at Brilliant Event Planning. It took years to break into the industry, but I encourage anyone who wants to pursue a career in events to put in the time and energy.LaFollette added that youll likely have to work long hours and weekends for free before getting your first paid gig, but it shouldnt discourage you Watching people enjoy the events you put together is amazingly rewarding, she said.To make a name in the industry, youll want to master the art before going solo. Interning and gaining experience will set you aside from other aspiring event planners. Its important to understand how much work is involved in planning events, both with the prep work that takes up to weeks in advance down to the setup and breakdown, which can be backbreaking work, said Seri Kertzner, co-creator of Little Miss cocktailparty Planner.Choosing your marketIf youre new to the business, it may be easier to get started in the social market. Not only are you mora likely to find clients among friends and relatives for social events like weddings or graduation parties, youll also gain valuable experience in negotiating and organizing that will be useful in the high-pressure world of corporate planning.Mindy Weiss, creator of Mindy Weiss Party Consultants, recommends sticking with a broad range of events, especially when youre first starting out. This will provide you with experience across the board. While you can certainly establish a specialty, as long as you keep innovating, theres no need to limit yourself to a particular type of party, she told Business nachrichten Daily. However, m any well-known event planners choose to specialize in organizing specific kinds of events. In our company, we take great pride in designing events and seeing them through from start to finish both creatively and logistically, said Kertzner. With that said, you will be better at your job if you have a clear focus.Kertzner noted that her company does not tackle weddings rather, they handle more intimate events like baby showers and birthdays. Choosing the market that aligns well with your goals sets you up for success. Dont try to tackle events that you are uninterested or inexperienced in just to prove that youre cultured in the art.Additionally, you should research the market in your area to determine what kind of planning service is most needed. Your business will connect people with goods and services in their own communities.Sites for inspirationSocial media is crucial to becoming a successful event planner. Having a presence on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and, of course, hav ing your own website will expand your following and build your brand. It takes time to attract customers, so be patient while being consistent with posts and your other promotional activities online. When someone is satisfied with an event you planned for them, they can credit you on social media and recruit potential customers.Additional sites like Pinterest, Studio DIY and Oh Happy Day are great resources for event planners. Research platforms that excite you in your work endeavors and stick with them through the planning process. These platforms provide daily inspiration with their incredibly creative, fresh ideas that are unique to this party planning market, said Kertzner.Weiss noted that while she loves social media sites, she also tries to channel the latest home dcor and fashion trends, allowing her to stay ahead of the curve, she said.Additional reporting by Elizabeth Peterson. My husband and I take turns getting up with our kids. Every other day we get to sleep in a bit. Today is my day to get up with Ryland. I lay in bed with him for a few minutes. I deutsche post ag a timelapse video from the night before to my Instagram. I have a list of hashtags saved in my notes, so I update it and add it to the post. I ask Ryland what he dreams about. It has to do with what we read the night before.730 a.m.Get Mila, our one-year-old, out of her crib and stspecies the breakfast routine. I take random bites of my breakfast while getting them fed and cleaned up. Pack Rylands snack and lunch. Wonder why it takes so long to get two kids and myself ready. Its already 830. We have to go9 a.m.Mila and I drop Ryland off at Pre-K and head to my print shop downtown. I pick up fine art prints and signage I need for my next event.930 a.m.We head over to the trail by the lake and I take Mila for a walk in the stroller. I pop in an earbud to listen to The Creative Pep Talk Podcast. The host is hilarious and inspirational all at once. After our walk, Mila runs around the park and collects sticks and rocks.11 a.m.Head back and feed Mila lunch. After she eats, I put her down for her nap.1130 a.m.This is when I get serious about my art. Coming up with new art print or greeting card concepts. Managing my custom requests, emails and customer service. I make a list of all the thing s I will need for my upcoming art event.1200 p.m.Make myself lunch and scroll through Instagram. Interact with other creatives or my followers. Gain some inspiration and Im back to the drawing board.1215 p.m.I sketch during naptime so that I can paint in the evenings. I have an ongoing commission list as well as a lineup of art to add to my growing art offering. I have teamed up with my brother-in-law, Javier Mercedes, to create art for his podcast interviewees. I make sure to sketch that out as well since a new Passion in Progress podcast is going live tomorrow.130 p.m.Mila wakes up and we pick Ryland up from school.2 p.m.The kids play on the playground outside of Rys school for awhile. Snacktime ensues around now. I also catch up with other moms on the playground. Its a great way to have adult communication in the midst of being a mom and working from home.330 p.m.Back home building a fort out of our chairs and blankets. We lay in the fort and relax for awhile.430 p.m.The kids are hungry so I feed them as Im getting dinner together for Brian and myself. Im not going to lie, I love when my husband cooks and he does pretty often. His aunts taught him how to cook when he lived in the Dominican Republic. I can make a mean batch of cookies though530 p.m.Brian comes home from work and we eat and chat and hang with the kids. Or they hang on us and continue to eat some of our food Seriously, Mila, how are you still hungry little girl??6 p.m.Brian takes the kids outside while I start packaging up online orders. After everything is wrapped up, I print shipping labels and place everything in the car. I drop ansicht items off at the Post Office after I drop Ryland off at school in the morning.630 p.m.Bedtime routine is under way. We give the kids a bath and get them in their pajames. We read them a few books and they go down for the night. They are so tuckered from playing that they fall right asleep.715 p.m.Catch up with Brian and start setting up my paint supplies. I make timelapse videos of everything that I paint. That way everyone can landsee my process.830 p.m.Im in the heart of a timelapse video. Depending on the level of detail, I can paint for up to 5 hours straight. I once painted until 4 in the morning toward the end of my 100daysofdrinks project this year. The video is as important as the final piece. They are captivating and have allowed me to work with some big brands. Companies are commissioning me to paint their product. They are posting my timelapse video on their social media channels. That is so cool1030 p.m.Wrap up my painting and start winding down with Brian on the couch. We watch an episode of a show that we love. If I go right to bed after a painting session, I will likely keep painting in my head. Its a dreadful and beautiful problem to have. My brain wont shut off sometimes, so falling asleep doesnt come easy some nights. Tonight, it does. I am out in a matter of minutes.--Interested in contributing to Fairygodboss MakingT ime series?
